What’s a critical/sensitive load?

A transport management plan (TMP) is required if an oversized or overmass load (OSOM) involves a critical/sensitive load. These are loads which either have health risks or hazardous and environmental risks.

Health risks are those that can affect the immediate health and welfare of the operator, driver and public. These include:

  • Radiation
  • Chemicals
  • Magnets
  • Asbestos

Hazardous and environmental risks are those that pose a substantial or potential threat to public health or the environment. The types of loads could be gas, liquid or solid and they include:

  • Corrosive
  • Toxic
  • Explosive
  • Radioactive

Critical/sensitive loads transported on General Access Vehicles don’t have the same requirements.
